Mangaluru, August 26: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and SFI staged a protest in front of the DC’s office here on Tuesday August 25th, condemning the assault on a man that took place at Attavar on Monday.

On the evening of Monday August 24th, Shakir was assaulted after being tied to an electricity pole at Attavar by a group for being in the company of a female colleague belonging to another community. The girl in a press meet on Tuesday alleged that the mob had ‘rescued’ her and that Shakir had ‘harassed’ her.

Addressing the protest, DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla said, it is clear that the congress government is unable to curb the moral policing in the coastal area. The incidents of assault are continuously taking place while the young boys and girls from different communities are seen moving together in the district.  People are still becoming victims of immoral rowdyism.

Cases of moral policing have risen since 2008. Even after Congress assumed power there is no change. We will continue our fight till the victim gets justice, and till immoral rowydism stops, said Muneer Katipalla.

MCC member Dayanand Shetty, leaders B K Imthiyaz and others led the protest.

The Muslim Chamber of Commerce Association has opposed this incident. The police have been urged to arrest the accused and initiate stringent actions against the culprits, demanded the leaders of the association Ali Hassan and Yaseen Kudroli.

The DK district Muslim associations union has strongly condemned this incident of assault on the youth.
