Details of accused disclosed by IGP in Press meet

Udipi/Mangalore, June 27:  At last, after grueling hunt, two people, who were involved in the Manipal gang rape have been arrested by the Udipi police team led by IGP Pratap Reddy (West Range) exactly after one week of the incident, which took place on June 21.

Both the accused are the residents of Onthibettu in Parkala.

After the arrest, addressing the press meeting, IGP Pratap Reddy revealed the details of the accused. Both the accused Yogish poojary,aged 30,son of Shanthappa Poojary and Hari Prasad Poojary,aged 21,son of Narayana Poojary were the residents of Parkala and auto drivers by profession.As the third accused is hiding, police team has been assigned to search for him.

How police team could succeed in investigation process:

One among the three accused in the gang rape, called IGP on June 27, Thursday morning informed him that caller was one among the three responsible for the gang rape and has consumed poison to end his life before they could nab him. Tracing all the information received by the accused, the IGP along with other officials visited Onthibettu area and arrested the caller.

During interrogation name of the accused has been revealed as Yogish, an auto and taxi driver from Parkala.

As Yogish was in critical condition due to the consumption of poison, he was admitted in emergency ward of KMC hospital and now he is responding to the treatment and his condition is stated to be stable and out of danger.Yogish already has a criminal record and was named in the list of rowdy sheeter.

On the basis of Yogish’s disclosure, the police later arrested Hariprasad poojary.The two strokes

Bajaj auto, which was used during the crime was found at his residence and is registered in his father’s name and has been seized by the police.

Both Yogish and Hariprasad were un-married and were loitering around even after the incident as if they have not committed any crime. But as soon as crime was highlighted, the accused himself admitted the crime with police department.

The real crime place has been revealed and was examined subsequently.

Around 400 police personnel from Udipi, Mangalore, Chickmaglur and north canara were involved as eight different teams in the whole process of investigation of the case.

The IGP stated that the people who helped in tracing the culprits will be rewarded with the cash prize.

As per the latest reports, the third accused in the Manipal gang-rape case, identified as Anand, has also been arrested at Badagabettu, Parkala at late evening on June 27, Thursday.

Like the other accused, he too attempted suicide, it is learnt.

Earlier, reports were rife that the accused had fled to Goa, but police received information that he was at Parkala. Also, police received a call from a local stating that someone was trying to hang himself in the woods. A search operation began, and he was found to be hanging by a tree. However, he was still alive.

The police rushed him to KMC hospital in Manipal where he is said to be recuperating.

Sources said that Anand was known to the victim through his wife.

Anand was supposed to go to Goa on work, and hence, it was assumed that he had escaped. It was later learnt that he had sent someone else in his place, while he himself stayed home.
