Udupi, June 27, 2013: There has been a new twist to the investigations into the alleged gang rape of Manipal University’s medical student. If the IGP had earlier in the day confirmed that two accused namely Yogish and Hariprasad (Harish) have been arrested and that search for the third accused was on, latest reports reveal that all the three are in police net with the third accused too attempting suicide, but however surviving.
If Yogish, one of the accused who was earlier arrested had attempted suicide by consuming poison even before the police could apprehend him, the third accused Anand who was earlier suspected to have fled to Goa, was found hanging at Parkala but was timely saved. It is learnt, he was apprehended late in the evening on June 27, Thursday at Badagubettu, Parkala.
Third accused Anand is arrested by the police, while he was attempting suicide in his sister’s house here in the evening on Thursday. He belongs to Sannakkibettu, Parkala. Anand had consumed tablets and tried hanging himself following the news over his search by the department officials. He was found by the police officials and some informers in his sister’s house trying to hang himself. He was retrieved and was immediately brought to KMC
Source said that the arrest was made late evening on Thursday June 27. Like the other accused, he too attempted suicide, it is learnt. Earlier, it was said that Anand had fled to Goa, but police received information that he was at Parkala.
The police could apprehend him on time before he could succumb to hanging.
He is said to be recovering at the KMC hospital. It has been reliably learnt that the victim knew Anand through his wife.
Sources revealed that though Anand had to go to Goa on some work, he had remained at home after sending someone else in his place.
