Mangaluru, August 15: The 69th Independence Day was celebrated with great honour and pride at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday August 15th.
District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, unfurled the National Flag and received the guard of honour.
Addressing the audience, minister B Ramanath Rai said, Independence Day is celebrated with much pride and happiness. We should preserve our culture and tradition and strive to build an atmosphere of unity and harmony. We need to inculcate these values among the youth, he said.
The Karnataka government is determined at providing social justice to all and has introduced many people-friendly projects. The ‘Ksheera Bhagya’ scheme was introduced with aims to provide nutrition to school children and ‘Vidyasiri’ scheme for students of backward classes to help in their education, he said.
With a view to provide more employment opportunities to the youth of the district the government has decided to organize a mega job fair in the district in the coming months where national and international companies would be invited.
In the march-past as many as 19 platoons had participated. The Air Wing NCC Senior Division and Satya Sai Alake bagged the first and second prize respectively.
Post the celebrations; an Independence Day cricket match was organized at Nehru Maidan, in which six teams participated.
