Mangalore, June 27: MLA JR Lobo has paid a visit to Wenlock hospital on June 26, Wednesday and had a lengthy discussion with regard to the pathetic condition of the hospital and the steps to be taken for the improvement.
He has also examined the prevailing conditions of the hospital by visiting all the departments such as trauma Centre, operation theatre, children treatment department, food preparation Centre, out-patient department and body organ production centre.
While speaking to media personnel he said in his address that presently this hospital is being well managed jointly with KMC.As patients from Kasaragod, Udipi, Shimog, Coorg are coming and taking treatment here and thus number of patients have been phenomenally increased, he said. But hospital is facing acute shortage of staff and steps will be taken to mitigate the existing problem, he assured
Currently renovation work of the kitchen is being carried out at the cost of Rs 14 lakh through Nirmana Kendra. Since the heat is more during summer season in the burn injury treatment department, remedial step would be taken soon, he said.
Besides, he also directed the hospital authorities to keep the hospital premises clean and tidy and to provide drinking water facility in each ward.
Shortage of nursing staff:
According to Shobha Nayak, Head of the nursing department, currently hospital is having 750 bed capacity and a total of 631 patients have been already admitted and apart from these around 800 out patients are visiting the hospital on daily basis from different parts. Logically one nurse for three patients treatment is being provided but now for want of nurses in the hospital, one nurse is attending seven patients, she elaborated.
