Security of ports- Additional Chief Secretary (Home) SK Pattanayak directs for immediate measures.

Mangaluru, August 10: The Additional Chief Secretary (Home) SK Pattanayak has directed to deploy suitable measures for the security of all the ports situated in the coastal Karnataka.

SK Pattanayak chaired a meet in this regard along with the higher police officials and port department officers at the Deputy Commissioners office here on Monday, August 10th. Apart from the N.M.P.T and Karwar ports, the security system deployed in the rest of the mini ports are in appropriate. In this view, the officials must immediately plan a project. CCTV, Police system, appointment of security personnel’s and other security systems must be employed, he directed.

The sea route is the easy way for the terrorists. Hence the security of the ports is very important. Colour code must be made compulsory for all the fishing boats. The state government has plans to provide security to the old Mangaluru port through the Karnataka industrial Security force. Similarly, the ships carrying freight from the old port must be kept under watch, said SK Pattanayak.

DGP Omprakash said, to improve the security of the ports, the port, fisheries and police departments have to work in synchronization.

ADGP A M Prasad said, in the sea as well as the coasts, security watch must be kept. The security of the mini ports must be tightened. Along with taking the help from the local police, he directed to take help of the private security agencies service.

In the meet, Western range IGP Amrithpaul, Police Commissioner S Murugan, Dakshina Kannada SP Dr S D Sharanappa, Uttara Kannada S P Dilip, coastal security force S P Chennabasavanna, Coast guard, port, fisheries, NMPT officials and others were present.
