Building collapse in Thane: Five Bantwal natives among 12 dead.

Mumbai, August 4: Among the 12, five natives of Bantwal have lost their lives when Krishna Nivas, a three-storied building, situated in B-Cabin area near the suburban Thane station here collapsed down at around 2.50 am on Tuesday August 4th.

The building was about 50 years old, in a dilapidated state and was in a dangerous state to reside. Even after the notices were served by the Thane Municipal Corporation and Ward officers to the building owner the occupants failed to evacuate the building which was the reason for the loss of lives, alleged the locals.

The building named ‘Krishna Nivas’ was a three storied building. The building was in a dispute between the building owner and Builders and the case was in court, it is gathered.

Already 12 bodies have been identified and 10 people have been rescued and admitted to the local hospital. Among them 7 members are in serious state, it is learnt.

The fire personnel’s along with the social workers in the locality have undertaken the rescue operations.

Thane police have registered a case and are investigating.

In this building at Pagdichal, the natives from Bantwal (Behind the Venkataramana Temple) were said to be residing from about four decades in this building.

Among them Ramachandra Panduranga Bhat (62), Meera Panduranga Bhat (58), Subraya (Subhash) Bhat (56), Rucita Bhat(25), Rashmi Ramachandra Bhat (25) are said to be the deceased.

The Maharashtra government will consider the matter seriously and suitable actions will be taken, a said a spokesperson.
