Mangaluru, July 31: Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Jacintha Vijay Alfred chaired the council meeting of Mangalore City Corporation on Thursday, July 30th.
BJP corporator Vijay Shetty said from the past six months, people have not received the water bills from past 6 months. Now people are asking for bills. People find it difficult to pay the bills, if the bills are sent once in 6 months. The concerned company has collected bills only from 29,000 connections out of 77,000 connections. He also demanded to initiate actions against this company.
Replying to this commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said, previous contractor Bellari based company which was not collecting the bills in a proper way. Now tender has been given to some other company and the old company has not surrendered all the data. Once the data transfer is done, bills will be collected, he said.
Many members complained about the water problem in their wards. One member said that in Krishnapura and Katipalla, the pipes are nearly 20 years old and they need to be replaced as the people face problems frequently.
Responding to this, the officials replied that tender has been called and the pipes would be replaced soon. As there were power cut in the pumping stations, due to which the water supply was effected.
Smart City:
Speaking about the smart city plan Mayor said, score card on smart city was prepared and Mangaluru has got maximum score, in the evaluation meeting held in Bengaluru. Hence there are possibilities of obtaining a smart city status among 6 cities.
The opposition members alleged that drainage system in the city is not working properly. They said there were blockages everywhere. Some of the Sewage Treatment Plants(STP) were not functioning properly.
Responding to this, the officials said that there are STP’s in Jeppinamogaru, Kudroli, Pachanady, Kavoor, Surathkal,and Bajal. Surathkal STP is not working due to electrical cable problem and will be repaired soon.
Many other problems were also discussed in the meet.
