Bondel home alone woman burglary case: One arrested

Mangaluru, July 15: In connection to the burglary of a home-alone woman in Bondel government quarters which took place on Saturday night, July 11th, police have arrested an accused.

Taranath (23), resident of Padavinangady near Bondel here has been arrested. Information of another accused involved in the theft has been obtained and operations are on to arrest him, informed DCP K M Shantharaju in  a press conference on Saturday, July 14th.

A Radha (58), employee of  Income Tax Department, resident of  PWD quarters in Bondel was assaulted and burgled of  her valuables.

On Saturday night, while Radha was staying alone in her house, miscreants in the pretext of asking drinking water stating that their car had met with an accident; forcibly gained entry into her house, while the woman opened the door a little to give them water. Later they tied the woman, assaulted her and looted gold jewellery, cash and three mobile phones from the house.

The woman later filed a complaint with the Kavoor police.

The police while investigating into the case, took Taranath into custody on July 14th. During questioning, Taranath has confessed to the crime which was done along with another accomplice. He also revealed that after learning that the women- a government employee lived alone at home, the culprits believed that she might be possessing huge cash and jewellery and in the pretext of accident had applied kumkum ( a red coloured powder) on their body in order to make the woman believe and gained entry into the house asking for drinking water, revealed accused Taranath.

The stolen cash and jewellery has been carried by his another accomplice who had given Rs 1000 for Taranath for his current expenses. When he counted the money later there was only Rs 600, said Taranath.

The cash and bike used for the theft has been seized and police are on a look out to arrest another culprit, informed the officer.
