Four held for illegally transporting cattle in containers

Mangaluru, July 9: The Belthangady police have arrested  four men near Charmadi check point who were illegally transporting cattle from Kadoor and Hassan areas in two containers to Kasargod on the morning of  Wednesday, July 8th.

The arrested are identified as Manjunath (35), resident of Satyamangala, Hassan Taluk, Chandrashekar (31), resident of Galahalli in Kalasipura, Chickamagalur District, Vajid Pasha (40) resident of Holenarasipura in Hassan district and Babu Saheb, resident of JP Nagar in Halebeedu.

Based on reliable information, Belthangady SI Madhava Koodlu along with the police personnel’s during a tip-off at the Charmadi check point intercepted the containers which arrived from Moodigere. Meanwhile the occupants of the vehicle attempted to escape. While investigating, the cattle being transported illegally in the vehicle came to light informed the police.

About 21 cattle were being transported in the vehicle. The estimated value of the cattle is Rs 1,37,000 and the vehicle is Rs 12 lakhs, it is learnt.

Belthangady police have registered a case.

There is a lack of police staff at Belthangady police station. The police staffs are restlessly engaged in duty day and night.

Two days ago, the Bantwal ASP had seized 18 cattle which were being transported illegally. Now, 21 cattle have also joined to this group. A total of 39 cattle are there in Belthangady police station now, which are also to be looked after, it is gathered.
