Mangaluru, June 10: A minor girl committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Kumpala Krishnagar here on Wednesday morning, June 10th. She has left behind a death note.
Deceased Jyoti (17), was the foster daughter of Jayanti, a retired teacher resident of Krishnanagar here.
Jyoti committed suicide when her mother, Jayanti, had been to attend Yoga training classes on Wednesday morning. When Jayanti returned after attending the Yoga class, she found the door of the room was bolted from inside. She sought help from her neighbours to break open the door and found to that Jyoti was hanging from the ceiling fan in the room.
Jyoti has stated in her death note that through Facebook she got to know a man named Praveen Salian working in Pandeshwar police station. I gave him my cell phone number. Later the friendship blossomed into love. Only once we met each other. Later, Praveen began to pressurize me not to speak to friends and relatives. He also used to often pose threats of committing suicide. Praveen then started demanding one lakh rupees in cash apart from gold ornaments, Jyoti stated in the death note. Hence she decided to commit suicide as she was frustrated over his harassment, read the death note.
Jyoti, after completion of PUC education at Parijnana College in Someshwar, had got admission in BCom degree course at Besant College in the city and the classes of the course are yet to commence.
ACP, Kalyani Shetty, Ullal station house officer, Savitri Teja, and SI Bharati, visited the spot. Investigations are on.
