Mangaluru, June 8: A leopard was trapped in a snare that was placed in a field belonging to Sharada of Mittakurmbil at Aikala near Kinnigoli which was rescued later and taken to Pilikula Nisargadhama.
Two year old male leopard got accidentally trapped in a snare. It was later taken to Pilikula Nisargadhama by the forest department officials.
The locals while returning from a function on the night of Saturday, June 6th had heard the cry of wile animal and barking of dogs. When they examined on the next day, they saw a leopard trapped in a snare and struggling to escape. Immediately the locals informed the forest department.
The forest range officer Parameshwar along with officials and veterinary doctors visited the spot.
The forest department officials undertook operations for two hours, freed the leopard from the snare and captured it with the help of a big net. Later they took the leopard to the Pilikula Nisargadhama.
There was a suspicion about the movement of the leopard in the vicinity as the domestic animals from many houses in the locality went missing.
In the operation, forest range officer Parameshawar, Manjunath Ganiga, Shivashanker, Sheshappa, and various locals had participated.
