MCC special meeting held to discuss on ADB loan based KIUWMIP Jalasiri project.

Mangaluru, May 29: In a special council meeting held at Mangalore City Corporation on Thursday May 28th, it was decided to give a nod to prepare a detailed project report and make changes in the initial reports submitted by the technical advisory firm pertained to the ADB loan based KIUWMIP Jalasiri project under the MCC limits.

MCC which has a population of 5 lakh has been sanctioned a project of Rs 160 crore aimed at implementation of 24×7 drinking water scheme for 60 wards in the city. All areas in the city which are left out of drinking water supply network will be added once the new scheme is implemented.

The project will be implemented keeping the population of 2045 as target. The new “Jalasiri” project of Karnataka Integrated Urban Water Management Investment Program (KIUWMIP) will be implemented with 50% loan from ADB (Rs 80 crore), 40% sanction from the state government (Rs 64 crore) and remaining 10% funds from MCC (Rs 16 crore). If everything works well, the coastal city will get 24×7 water supply network through Project II of ADB. New scheme will replace analog meters with digital ones to check leaks. In this new project, electromechanical devices and gadgets that will have auto mechanism to trace leakages will be used. Old pipelines will be replaced with new ones, additional storage facilities will be added and houses connected to bore-wells will be brought under Jalasiri scheme once completed.

Speaking during the meet, MLA JR Lobo said, If we do not give consent for the 2nd phase project of ADB, the funds which will arrive for the drinking water and drainage project will go back, he said.

MLA Moideen Bava, MLC Ivon D’Souza who spoke on this occasion said, the 2nd phase works is needed for the complete drinking water and drainage projects of Mangaluru. M Sashidhar Hedge who spoke on this occasion said, the preliminary reports will be discussed in the standing committee meeting on Monday, June 1st.

A total of 100 kms of additional pipelines will be laid to provide drinking water facility to all properties in the city, informed design engineer of GKW Consult Jayaprakash.

On this occasion, MLA JR Lobo, MLC Ivon D’Souza, Deputy Mayor Purushotama Chitrapura, President of various standing committees Harinath, Kehsava, Deepak K Poojary, Prakash Salyan were present.
