Large crowds witnessed in fish Carnival held at Pilikula

Mangaluru, May 18: Dr Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama had organized ‘Fish Carnival’, in collaboration with Karnataka Fisheries Development Cooperation and College of Fisheries at Pilikula here on Sunday May 17th. Huge crowd had gathered at the venue to witness and participate in the event.

A special stall by Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation sold raw fish including Catla, seer fish, butter fish, tiger prawns, pomfret, lobster, pink perch and rohu. Special fish varieties such as fish fry, fish masala, fish kabab etc were prepared fresh on the spot. Fish lovers enjoyed the variety cuisine. The vendors were busy selling fish, crab and prawns of various sizes.

The event which is aimed at starting an Anglers’ Club received positive response from the public with a good number of registrations.

Addressing the media, D K Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the management has decided to variety of fishes like rohu, Catla, mahseer and common carp, in view of the interest for angling in the region. Angling is being developed as a sport, so based on today’s registrations; we have a plan to start a club in Pilikula where anglers would be trained through workshops and routine activities.

This fish carnival, is definitely a success today as we can witness families visiting the park and enjoying the activities, he added.

On this occasion, Director Pilikula Biological Park H Jaya Prakash Bhandary, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Chairman of Shri Devi Education Trust Sadananda Shetty, joint director of fisheries V K Shetty, executive director S A Prabhakara Sharma, KAS (Retd), ZP CEO Sreevidhya, Yathish Baikampady and others were present.
