Heavy storm showers witnessed across DK district, lightning kills a boy, properties damaged.

Mangaluru, May 12: Mangaluru city and many other places across DK district witnessed showers with heavy breeze and lightning at about 6pm on Monday, May 11th.

The district appeared cloudy since Monday afternoon. A boy has expired after he was struck by lightning in Bantwal district and losses have incurred in various places due to the rain.

It is reported that Suratkal, Mulky, Kuloor, Kavoor, Bajpe, Kulshekar, Thokkotu and other areas received showers.

Thunder strikes a boy to death in Panemangaluru:

Places across Bantwal district witnessed heavy thunder storms.

Lightning claimed the life of a young boy Aboobacquer Sidique(16), son of P H Yusoof, residing at Banglegudde in Panemangaluru. While it began to shower at around 4.30 pm, Aboobacquer took refuge under a mango tree close to his house. Meanwhile he was severely injured by the lightning which had struck the tree. He was immediately rushed to Thumbe hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Deceased Aboobacquer was the youngest among the four sons of PH Yusoof. He had appeared for the SSLC exams which was conducted a month ago during April 2015 and was awaiting results. Both of the parents of the deceased are sick.

This case is filed under natural calamities and as per the present law, to pay Rs 4 lakhs to the family, procedures have been done, informed the revenue inspector.

District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, ZP member Cahndraprakash Shetty, Taluk Panchayat member B Padmashekar Jain and others visited the hospital and expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased Aboobacquer Sidique.

A young woman Vanitha, daughter of Susheela residing at Keremoole in Kadeshwalya village suffered serious injuries due to lightning and has been admitted to private hospital in Kalladka. Over sixty houses have been damaged due to the rains.

In Netlamudnooru and Ananthady village, rain has spoilt cops owing Rs 26 lakhs as estimated by revenue inspector.

Rain at Kadaba:

Kadaba and surrounding areas received heavy rain with winds on Monday morning. Trees fell at various places and electricity poles were also damaged due to rain due to this, power supply was also interrupted.

Mosque tower damaged at Talapady:

The tower of mosque in Talapady at BC Road was damaged after being struck by lightning. Twenty one houses in the surrounding areas were also damaged.

Immediately after receiving the news, Bantwal Thashildhar Purandara Hegde, Village accountant A P Bhat, Village Accountant Rajkumar and other staffs inspected the affected spot.
