Mangaluru, April 20: The media crew of DK on Sunday April 19th took a short break to exhibit their talents at the sports meet.
Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union along with the Press Club of Mangaluru organized the sports meet at St Aloysius College ground.
The event was inaugurated by Minister for youth empowerment, sports and fisheries, Abhayachandra Jain by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, Jain said, sports play a crucial role in reliving both physical and mental stress. There are plans to enhance sports by providing training to the youth under the guidance of the college physical directors in the taluk and district stadiums. Handing over the charge of the stadiums to physical directors would help youngsters, as they can get better guidance, he said.
As many as 200 physical directors working for government educational institutions in the state will be employed to take in charge of the management of respective taluk and district stadiums. Pertaining to this, orders will be passed after holding talks with the Chief Minister and holding meeting sooner, he informed.
Mangaluru city police commissioner S Murugan speaking on the occasion said, in order to maintain a healthy and fit health, and also to derive happiness, people should engage themselves in physical exercises and sports.
Athletes Manohar Prabhu, Sakshi, and senior journalist Lakshman Rai were felicitated on this occasion. DK journalists cricket team which recently won second place in the state-level tournament organized at General K S Thimmaiah district sports ground, at Madikeri was also honoured on this occasion.
The gathering was welcomed by President of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union, Jagannath Shetty Bala.
Press Club president Ramakrishna R thanked. Journalist P B Harish Rai compeered the program.
During the sports meet, Senior journalist V Manohar Prasad, Press Club president Ramakrishna, Ravindra Shetty, and others were also present.
