Mangaluru, April 11: The post-centenary silver jubilee of St Joseph Leprosy Hospital, and golden jubilee celebrations of Father Muller Rehabilitation Unit, both run by Father Muller Charitable Institutions, was celebrated here on Saturday April 11th, at Academy hall.
Bishop of Mangaluru diocese, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated the programme.
Joint director and state leprosy officer Vimala Patil, chief guest of the event; thanked Father Muller Institution for inviting her for the event.
Addressing the gathered she said when I took charge as state leprosy officer, I visited many hospitals and attended many conferences and that is how I was inspired to do this good work. This good work of treating leprosy patients was initially done by Mother Teresa and Gandhiji. When I visited this hospital today morning, I was moved by the selfless service rendered by it. She congratulated the hospital for completing 125 years.
U T Khadar in his address said, he was happy that good service is provided to people by that Father Muller Institution. This leprosy hospital was started 125 years ago for the service of people whom the society had abandoned. This is the best leprosy hospital not only in Mangaluru but across the country. I congratulate and thank Father Muller Institutions for their service and dedication towards treating leprosy patients, he said.
On April 15th, Chief Minister will inaugurate the bike ambulance service, he informed.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’souza congratulated all the staffs of the hospital for rendering their selfless service. Everyone will not be ready to serve these patients or work in a leprosy hospital. Only people chosen by god will serve them. I congratulate the Sisters of Charity who were serving leprosy patients even when the hospital started 125 years ago. . I pray to lord to continue his blessings on each one who carries this great job of treating leprosy patients.
Bishop praised the Health Minister Khader for his good works.
On this occasion, former and senior staffs of the leprosy hospital were facilitated and a book written by two doctors was also released.
On behalf of the government, Bishop, who is also the president of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, was felicitated by U T Khadar and Vimala Patil.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues welcomed the gathering.
Provincial superior of Sisters of Charity, Mangaluru province Dr Sr Matilda Monteiro , administrator Fr Richard Coelho and others were present.
