Enthusiastic students of Mangalore University donate blood in a blood donation camp.

Mangaluru, April 10: A voluntary blood donation camp jointly organised by Mangalore University Blood Donors’ Group (MUBDG) , Communication Club, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and PG students’ Council in association with Indian Red Cross Society, at University Health Centre was inaugurated here on April 9th by Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa.

Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof K Byrappa, informed that Mangalore University will introduce Smart Card and Data Bank from next year.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof Byrappa said that the Smart Card would be introduced by the Mangalore University which will contain information such as student’s name, address, blood group, attendance, and related details.

He opined that blood donation is a great service one can render for the mankind. The ’Blood Data Bank’ will consist of a list of blood donors among students of the university and the list will be available in the administrative office and all departments, he said.

Co-ordinator of Mangalore University Blood Donors’ Group Prof G P Shivram spoke on the importance of donating blood. Along with reducing the cholesterol level in blood, blood donation can also reduce the risk of cardiac arrest, heart problems and hypertension, he said.

Over a hundred donors including a good number of female students registered their name for blood donation. In the camp, 78 students donated blood.
