‘Pa Go Award – 2014’ presented to Balakrishna Shibarla

Mangaluru, April 7: Balakrishna Shibarla was presented the ‘Pa Go Award – 2014’, in a befitting ceremony held at Press Club here on Tuesday April 7th.

Senior journalist G A Naik, who was the chief guest of the event presented the award which consists of a citation, cash prize Rs 10,001 and a memento.

In memory of the late Padyana Gopalakrishna Bhat, the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union presents this yearly award for the best rural reporting.

Shibarla was awarded for his article ‘Naxal Police Madhye Nalugidavaru’, which was published on July 31st, 2014 in Vijaya Karnataka.

Udayavani Mangaluru bureau chief Manohar Prasad, who spoke on the occasion said, late Padyana Gopalakrishna Bhat was one of the best journalists ever. It is really a happy moment to present the award in his memory, he said.

After receiving the award, Balakrishna Shibarla, Udupi reporter of Vijaya Karnataka daily thanked the ‘Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Union for choosing him for the award. He expressed his happiness to receive the award.

Due to the support and guidance from various people I could reach this height. He expressed his gratitude to his parents and wife for being pillar of support.

The guests were welcomed by President of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union Jagannath Shetty Bala. President of Press Club, Ravindra Shetty, compeered the program. Secretary Shrinivasa Indaje proposed the vote of thanks.

Savitri, wife of the late Padyana Gopalakrishna Bhat, chief secretary of DKDWJU Srinivas Nayak was present among others on this occasion.
