Association seek Minister’s persuation to drop cases against journalists

Mangalore, June 08 : The Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association has urged the Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology B Ramanath Rai to prevail on the state government to withdraw cases registered against journalists in Morning Mist Home Stay attack incident in July last. A delegation of the association headed by president P B Harish Rai, met Ramanath Rai, also the district in-charge minister and submitted a memorandum to him.

Noting that booking cases against journalists from visual media – Naveen Shetty Soorinje of a private Kannada news channel and Sharan of local cable TV network who had gone to the incident spot at Padil for covering the news as an assault on freedom of press, Harish Rai said the previous BJP government had assured that cases against the duo will be revoked. However, this is yet to become a reality and Naveen in the meanwhile has managed to come out on bail, while Sharan is still in jail.
