Mangaluru, March 27: In an incident of attempt to murder which took place at Mannagudda, victim Nagaraj Prabhu(35), resident of Krishnapura in Suratkal here, who suffered critical injuries has expired late night on Wednesday in Wenlock hospital. In the wake of this incident murder case has been registered at Barke station and the accused has been arrested.
The accused identified as Gangadhar(45) resident of Arasikere, has been arrested by the police team led by Barke SI S S Meti, on Thursday morning at KSRTC bus stand here. The cops on learning that the accused has attempted to abscond by a bus, raided the spot and arrested the accused.
Row over the sleeping place:
The arrested accused Gangadhar always was sleeping on pavement of the ground floor at Sai Nikethan complex in Mannagudde here. On Wednesday night, the deceased Nagaraj Prabhu had slept there before Gangadhar’s arrival. Gangadhar opposed this; later fight erupted between the two over this issue. As both were drunk, the situation went worse.
Following this, accused Ganghadar had slept in another place close by. Late night, when Nagaraj Prabhu was fast asleep, Ganghadar who woke up took a large stone from nearby and dropped over head of Nagaraj Prabhu and fled the spot. This incident came to light on the morning of Wednesday around 5.30 am, and until then Nagaraj Prabhu was struggling in a pool of blood.
Cops after receiving the information on the morning arrived at the spot and shifted the critically injured Nagraj Prabhu to hospital. But, Nagraj Prabhu failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries in Wenlock hospital on late night of Wednesday.
Nagraj Prabhu studied Polytechnic, but was strolling here and there instead of taking a job. As he had developed over alcoholism, he was into pick-pocket for buying alcohol. He was caught by the police several times and was recently released from jail where he had lodged for 23 days. The autopsy was conducted at Wenlock hospital, and later the body was handed over to his family.
