Mangaluru, March 25: Budget for the year 2015-2016 was presented by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday March 24th, without any new projects being announced.
Prior to the meeting, homage was paid to Veteran artist K N Taylor and IAS officer D K Ravi.
Presenting the budget, president of standing committee for finance and taxation, Harinath, said that MCC has expected to earn income of Rs 35,524.30 lakhs from various sources while the estimated total expenditure was Rs 35,522.80 lakhs.
e-Tender for advertisement taxes:
Applications are invited via e-tendering process to erect advertisement boards at identified areas falling under MCC jurisdiction, from which Rs 2.20 crores are expected in the form of tax, said the president of the standing committee Harinath. For SC/ST welfare programmes, during the year 2015-2016, Rs 3.37 crores are kept reserved in the MCC.
Vented dam at Thumbe
The second vented dam at Thumbe, which was built to meet the drinking water needs of the city till 2026, is nearing completion. The water storage in the vented dam at Thumbe is limited for 45 days, and in order to raise the storage for 120 days, the state government initiated a new vented dam at a cost of Rs 75.50 crore under the Karnataka City Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and 70 percent of the work has been completed and the project is expected to be completed by June end this year. After this, water scarcity in the city will be reduced to a major extent, Harinath said.
During the budget meet, Mayor Jacintha Alfred, MCC commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, standing committee president Prakash K Salyan, Keshava and others were present.
