Mangaluru, March 14: A ceremony was organized at Bishop’s House, here to honour newly-appointed mayor Jacintha Alfred, Pius Rodrigues, Chairman of Bantwal Urban Development Authority (BUDA) and M P Noronha, Syndicate member of Mangalore University on Saturday March 14th.
Mayor Jacintha addressed the gathering and said that she was very happy being elected as the mayor.
BUDA president Pius Rodrigues addressed t gathered and said, chief minister Siddaramaiah brought about lot of initiatives to help the poor and the Christian community, when Congress party won in the state. Congress party has extended immense support to them, he said.
M P Noronha, Syndicate member of Mangalore University said, helping people is similar to helping God. I will serve my people as well as the society, he said.
Addressing the gathering, MLC Ivan D’Souza said, Jacintha was the right person to be chosen as the mayor. We are here for service of the society.
Fr Denis Moras Prabhu said in his in his presidential address that a Catholic woman getting the mayor’s post is a wonderful moment for all. Christian community is a community which prays for the welfare of others, he added.
Roy Castelino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy also spoke on this occasion.
On this occasion, all the three pledged that they would serve the society as well as the Christian community.
The prayer service was conducted by Rosario Church parish priest Fr J B Crasta. The guests were welcomed by Fr William Menezes. The event was compered by Pingara editor Raymond D’Cunha.
