Mangaluru, March 8: As part of the International Women’s Day on Sunday March 8th, Public debate was organized on the topic “Mother Teresa – Manaveeyatheya Pratirupa” by Progressive Thinkers’ Forum, Mangaluru at Milagres Senate Hall in Mangaluru.
Roy Castelino, President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy inaugurated the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr B Shivaram Shetty, professor at Mangalore University said, Mother Teresa was a saint as well as a mother. We need live a life of love, peace and harmony and have to come out of the boundaries of religion.
Fr Oniel D’Souza- Director of St Antony’s Orphanage, Jeppu said, none of the nasty allegation can spoil the reputation of Mother Teresa. She was not restricted to any one religion, she never believed in conversation. All of us need to thank Mohan Bhagwat for making us remember Mother Teresa 18 years after her death, he said.
Fr Valerian D’Souza, parish priest of Milagres Church said, Mother Teresa visited Mangaluru twice. She preached the message of love and care for each other during her visits. She saw the image of God in the poorest of the poor. We have to lead a life following her footsteps, he said.
The event was compeered by Sunil Kumar Bajal. Corrine Rasquinha-Founder- White Doves, Gladson Jathanna-Assistant professor- Karnataka Theological College, I A Prasanna, President of Progressive Thinkers’ Forum, Vasudeva Uchil, many nuns and others were present on this occassion.
