Mangaluru, March 04: The award conferring ceremony of ’Parisara Mitra School’ 2014-2015, was organised by district administration along with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, District Legal Service Authority, Department of Public Instruction and Pilikula Regional Science Centre on March 3rd, at Nethravathi auditorium at Urwa Store in the city.
Last year, around 4,68,000 students has participated in this competition and it has hiked to 7,28,000 this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Vaman Acharya, Chairman-Karnataka State Pollution Control Board said that when it comes to pollution we blame the industries normally. Sixteen per cent of pollution is caused by industries and the rest 84 per cent by others states study.
The damage which is caused by the modern scientific technology can be revitalized using the same. The strength of students is great, he said.
The school which won ’Parisara Mitra School’ award can convert the village into ’Parisara Mitra village’ which should be the combined effort of students, parents, teachers and people, he said.
B Ramanath Rai Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology said, awareness about environment ought to be developed among children for a hopeful future. If all take the responsibility of keeping their environment clean, achieving clean society is not an impossible task, he said.
He said that although there are people who are concerned about the environment, there are also others who do not bother about environment. Hence, the department of environment has undertaken three tasks of development, service and control.
’Chinnara Vanya Darshana’:
Forest, Environment and Ecology Minister B Ramanath Rai said that for the first time ’Chinnara Vanya Darshana’, one day forest tour for high school students from this year will be launched by the State government.
Minister Rai added that with the help of Pilikula Nisargadhama, Urban Ecological Park will be developed in Mangaluru which would help to create awareness on pollution control, protection of environment and so on.
Director of Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Dr K V Rao said ’Parisara Mitra School’ award competition has received huge support, which was held for the first time in Dakshina Kannada.
In the first round, as many as 30 schools were chosen. In the second round, the jury team comprising Gopalakrishna Bhat, Purushotham and Dinesh Naik, selected 10 schools as ’Green schools’, 10 schools as ’Yellow schools’, and 1 school as ’Parisara Mithra School’.
