Mangaluru, March 4: Five persons have been arrested by the City Crime Branch cops in relation to the recent group clashes at KC Road near Talapady. The cops have seized six petrol bombs from them.
The arrested are namely Mohammed Basheer (36), a resident near Talapady Pilikur mosque, Mohammed Nasir (28) residing near Talapady bus stand, Abdul Sattar (33), a resident of KC Road, Niyaz (30) residing at Guddemane, KC Road, and Shabbir, a resident of KC Nagar. It is learnt that, among the accused, Nasir is an engineer.
The group clashes erupted on February 25th night due to a quarrel which arose between two groups at KC Road junction over erecting banners and buntings in preparation for Talapady temple’s Brahma Kalashotsava.
It is alleged that, one group switched off the street lights and hurled stones and soda bottles at the other group. During the clashes between the two groups, several suffered injuries.
Post this incident 13 shops in Thokkottu were burnt. Few incidents of stone-pelting, damaging banners and shop set on fire were reported, as the days for Virat Hindu Samajothsava were approaching.
Based on reliable information, the CCB cops arrested the prime accused and seized six petrol bombs from their possession. It is learnt that these persons also possessed bomb manufacturing equipments.
The police had ear arrested two persons in connection with the KC Road clashes.
Ullal MLA and health minister U T Khadar congratulated the police for initiating quick action and arresting the accused. He said, the public’s should inform the police and help them when miscreants try to disrupt peace.
