Visually impaired children will be given laptops : Umashree

Mangaluru, February 27: State minister for Kannada and culture Umashree on Thursday February 26th claimed that the Congress government in the state has already fulfilled 90 percent of the promises made in its manifesto in 2013 elections.

Addressing party workers at the district Congress office in the city, Umashree said, Congress party workers should publicize the information on pro-people programmes to the citizens by making a comparative study of the previous governments and the present government. The state government has fulfilled 90 percent of the promises that were made in the manifesto. The silence of the Congress party workers about people-friendly programmes has given an opportunity for the opposition party’s growth, she added.

She also informed that laptops for 1,000 visually impaired children will be provided and for a span of two years, monthly Rs 2,000 will be provided to the visually impaired women to look after her child.

About the land acquisition ordinance of union government she said, this is a pro-capitalist government. Agricultural land is being used for commercial purposes. Youth from are moving to cities to earn their livelihood. In future we may also face scarcity of food when youth do not show interest in agriculture. It is the responsibility of the government to save agricultural land and also protect the interest of farmers. We are not against industries but the interest of farmers of should be protected, said Umashree.

Speaking on secularism, Umashree said Hindu religion preaches religious tolerance. We should treat everyone equally. Tolerance should be practised by people of all religions. All should contribute to form a peaceful society.
