Mangaluru, February 27: A protest was staged in front of the DC’s office here by the CPI(M) along with Christian leaders of the city on Thursday February 26th damning the statement of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat while speaking on Mother Teresa’s social service.
Vasanth Achar, CPI(M) district secretary addressing the protestors said, Mohan Bhagwat’s allegation about Mother Teresa rendering service to the poor in order to convert them to Christianity is wrong. CPI(M) strongly condemns this. People get converted to Christianity on their own wish, he said.
Muneer Katipalla said, Mother Teresa served the poor who were kept away by the society. Mohan Bhagwat should have thought twice before uttering such a statement.
Oneil D’Souza, Director of St Antony Jeppu, said, it is a sad thing that Mother Teresa – a Nobel Prize winner for rendering her selfless service to the mankind has been wrongly accused.
Addressing the protesters, Roy Castelino said, Mother Teresa considered this country as her own and rendered her selfless service to the needy. RSS people say we convert, but if it was the case our population would have been 50 percent rather than just three percent, he said.
During the protest, Fr Francis Almeida, Fr J B Crasta, Stany Alvares, Yadav Shetty Sheldon Crasta, Sr Shanthi, Vasudev Uchil and others were present.
