Mangaluru, November 23: The students of final year BCA at Govinda Dasa College, Suratkal who were seen in the controversial photo posted on social media, in which a boy was observed to be lying on the laps of five girls in a classroom, have been suspended from the college, it is learnt.
But, Riyaz, who was only seen sitting in the photo on the extreme left, has not been suspended. A committee has also been formed to probe the incident, it is gathered.
Principal Prof K Rajamohan Rao has stated in a letter to the student welfare officer of Mangalore University (to which the college is affiliated); that in order to inquire into the matter, a committee was formed comprising senior staff members of the college as well as its administrative director.
On Monday February 23rd, the students involved in the incident along with their parents were called to the college. The committee, after enquiring them has decided to suspend the students.
The matter will be referred to a separate committee comprising representatives of Mangalore University and the management for further action, states the letter.
It is gathered that, Riyaz has been asked to appear before the committee to give his statement on February 26th.
A protest was also staged by the ABVP boycotting the classes and students from another college had also joined in the protest.
Principal of the college chaired a meeting with the police and informed that the students cannot be debarred without inquiry and the university would decide on the debar of students.
Thashildar and ACP Ravikumar have visited the college. The classes resumed in the afternoon after assurances from the principal.
