Mangaluru, February 21: The construction works of the new block of Lady Goschen Government Hospital has been halted few days ago. The building was expected to be ready by now.
Former union minister Veerappa Moily visited Lady Goshen hospital on Saturday February 21st to inspect the works in new block instructed to resume the work.
Speaking to the media, Veerappa Moily said, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has sanctioned Rs 21.70 crore for the project and locally, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) is executing it. The company has released Rs 9 crore to the contractor. The first three floors should be completed by July 2015 and it will be handed over to Lady Goshen Hospital to operate. After the perfect completion of the below three floors, remaining floors will be finished, he said.
He said, the work has been stopped from the past few days he had discussed the matter with the contractor, and the latter has said that there are no outstanding payments. The bill for the remaining Rs 25 lakhs is being processed. Hence there is no reason to halt the construction work.
Speaking further he said, the contractor is solely responsible for the halt of work. He said that, he would personally review this project and action would be initiated once the construction work is completed, he added.
On this occasion, Dr Shivkumar- District health officer, Dr Shakuntala – superintendent of Lady Goschen hospital, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, MLC Ivan D’Souza, depty mayor Kavitha, T K Sudhir, and others were present.
