Sullia, February 18: A heart rendering incident occurred at Uttambe in Guttigar near Subrahmanya in the taluk on Tuesday February 17th, in which a teenage girl was charred alive in her house which burnt completely in fire.

The deceased is, Harshita(18) daughter of Narayana Gowda and Saroja couple.

Fire had engulfed the entire house when Harshita was alone at home. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. It is suspected that electrical short circuit or fire accident might have charred the house.

When the incident had occurred, the girl’s father, Narayana, a carpenter by profession, was working at Subrahmanya temple. Her mother was in a relative’s house and her brother was away in fields related to some family-related work. The house is located in a isolated area, and there are no houses close by.

On Tuesday afternoon, people living in houses some distance away could hear noises made by bursting of over-heated tiles and noticed thick smoke was emanating out of Narayana’s house. The locals immediately rushed to the spot to douse the fire.  As the fire had already engulfed the entire house, fire brigade was summoned to the spot.

The fire was extinguished later. The entire roof of the house had burnt down by then, and charred body of the girl was found lying among the burnt materials. It is guessed that Harshitha would have been fast asleep when fire broke out, and by the time she woke up, the fire would have surrounded her.

Gold jewellery worth Rs 1 lakhs, Rs 25,000 cash, and household materials were burnt due to fire.

Sullia police circle inspector, Sathish, and Subrahmanya SHO- Nagesh Kadri, also inspected the spot, and have undertaken investigations based on the available details. Srinivas Shetty- Tahsildar, Boraiah- Mescom assistant engineer, have also visited the spot.  The tahsildar has said samples of burnt materials will be sent to forensic lab for assessment purpose.
