Kundapur, February 11: Fire broke out at Navabharath Cashew Industries in Mavinakatte near Vandaru here on Tuesday February 10th.
The fire which initially broke out in a store room where cashew kernels were placed later engulfed the entire factory, owing to a loss of more than Rs 75 lakhs.
The factory opened at 8.30 am and the workers observed fire at 8.45 am. The workers go home every evening after putting off the main switch and they had done the same on Monday evening too. The fire had erupted immediately on Tuesday morning after the main switch was put on.
It is gathered that there were twelve thousand sacks of cashew kernels, with each sack weighing between 60 kg to 70 kg. It is assumed that there were discarded cashew kernels up to 50 tons in them. The entire building has been damaged as the fire continued till evening.
The fire extinguishers from Kundapur and Udupi rushed to the spot and struggled to subside the fire.
