Kundapur, January 12: Clashes erupted near Kinara hotel at Halavalli in Kodi here by evening on Sunday January 11th during which two persons belonging to the same community suffered serious injuries.
The injured are identified as Bharat (17) and Ranjith (17) from Halavalli. They are admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur. Two others, identified as Ashida Ahmed and Abdul Munaf from other community have also been admitted to hospital.
The assault took place near Kinara Hotel in Halavalli, during which a 25 group of people comprising the accused identified as Mayadi Bin Ibrahim Halealive, Farooz Bin Rafiq, Galfi Bin Mirji Saheb, Ashfaq Ganti, Malik Kulla, Ashif Gaddemane, Shahid, Shajid, Latif Khan Mohammed, Intiyan, Irshad and Rahim Beary assaulted the youth with soda bottles, states the complaint filed by injured youth.
Meanwhile, Ashida Ahmed and Abdul Munaf who got admitted to hospital alleged that they were assaulted by a group of youths while they were returning from a relative’s house where they had been to pay back some loan amount. They alleged that the assault was in connection with another incident wherein a girl of their community was teased by some youths.
The injured persons have said that an old rivalry between the two groups was the reason behind the assault. Recently, conflict had erupted after a bike belonging to one Deepak was damaged during ‘Gendaseve’ at Jattigeshwara Temple in Kodi. Later, a conflict had aroused at Halealivae after some right wing outfit hoisted a flag. The tension which erupted on Sunday were a result of these episodes, said convener of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Dhananjay Kundapur.
It is alleged that, during the clashes, stones are pelted at the residence of K H Husman.
Udupi SP Annamalai has inspected the spot. He has visited the youths who were injured during the assault and has taken their statements related to the clashes. During the visit ASP Santosh Kumar and others were present.
Tension prevailed at Kodi, following the clashes. Higher officials visited the spot. Armed reserve police personnel were deployed in the area, and police officials are present at the spot to keep the situation under control.
Kundapur cops have registered cases from both parties and have undertaken investigations.
