Mangaluru, December 23: MLC Ivan D’Souza, speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, December 23rd, said that the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured that as a substitution for the current cable system, the under-grounding of electricity transmission cables would be done shortly.
He said that during the 10 days winter session of Karnataka legislature held at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, he had raised a total of 45 questions concerned to the developmental activities and pending works in Dakshina Kannada. He revealed that, 38 questions were answered by the government, out of the total 45 questions, while the concerned departments requested for time on seven issues.
Regarding the up-gradation of facilities at Mangalore International Airport, he said that the stretch connecting airport would be upgraded shortly during the second phase. He revealed that civil aviation minister has also assured the extension of the airport runway in the future.
Ivan further said that he raised the issue of areca growers in the session and urged that a separate areca board should be formed in the state to address the grievances of areca growers in the state.
He revealed that he had also raised several issues before the session including cancellation of interest on self assessment property tax for citizens in Mangaluru, inclusion of Konkani as a language option in PUC syllabus, up-gradation of Mangaluru to Smart City status, commencement of second division of the state High Court, construction of bhavan for lawyers in Mangaluru, shifting of Mangaluru Prison to the outskirts of the city, and others.
Cheques were also handed over to 13 beneficiaries by Ivan D’Souza from the funds which were sanctioned under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
