Mangaluru, December 17: The angry locals at Eliyarpadavu in Konaje police station limits blocked the movement of eleven trucks loaded with sand, after one of the trucks hit a bike and injured the rider even on Wednesday December 17th.

The locals alleged that the trucks which ply on the narrow road cause a series of accidents. Earlier, the sand-laden trucks used to move from Harekala jetty to Konaje. From the past one month, this road is being concreted and now the trucks move via Baithar, Debbeli and Eliarpadavu to Konaje.

It is difficult to move on this road as the one-way road is filled with several potholes. As sand laden trucks ply on this road, this road is prone to accidents, said the locals.Four bikes, a school vehicle and a car have met with accidents here during the last three days.

The bike riders were injured as the lorry rammed to bike on Wednesday.

Protest was staged by the citizens of Oddedaguri, Aikukoppala and Eliarpadavu by blocking the movement of trucks.

Through Harekala panchayat, a police complaint was lodged. Konaje police circle inspector Raghava Padil rushed to the spot, and conveyed the matter to the local tahsildar. The tahsildar Mohan Rao came to the spot and seized eleven trucks.

It is strange to observe that the protestors have blocked the movement of 11 trucks belonging to the same owner although many trucks are involved in sand transportation. Responding to this, the lorry owner has said that a group had reportedly demanded Rs 200 per lorry each day. He has alleged that since the amount was not paid, the team protested along with the public’s.
