District Judge and DC inspect district jail to address problems of inmates.

Mangaluru, December 17: The District and Sessions Judge M.G. Uma accompanied by A.B. Ibrahim Deputy Commissioner paid a visit to the District Prison on Tuesday December 16th, and to check the short comings in prison.

The duo who visited on noticing unequal distribution of prisoners in cells, directed the jail officials to see to it that equal number of prisoners are lodged in all cells.

Some under trials informed the District Judge and the DC that they were facing health issues after drinking water supplied in the prison.

In response, the DC immediately instructed the officials to send the water sample for lab test and submit a report to him. He also directed that hereafter, monthly; the quality of water supplied to the prisoners ought to be checked.

DC  Ibrahim after noticing that water pipelines in the prison were ruptured and leaking at various points in the prison, summoned the Engineer of the Water Supply Division of the MCC and directed him to get the ruptured pipelines repaired.

The DC and the District Judge also inspected the kitchen and food stuffs and tasted the jail food to check its quality. They also inspected the toilets used by the prisoners and noticed the dis-colouration of water used.

The DC directed the officials to take necessary steps to solve the problems.

Dharmaraj, PWD Executive Engineer, Dr Rajeshwari Devi, Wenlock Superintendent, Mahesh Kumar Jigane, Jail Superintendent and many officials of MCC were present.
