Mangaluru, December 3: “Students ought to inculcate discipline along with education. One can reach great heights if the base is laid strong from early childhood”, expressed the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese RT. Rev Fr Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza who blessed and presided the Post Centennial Golden Jubilee “Institutions’ Day” of Urwa Parish School’s (St Aloysius English Medium School, Pompey high School and St Aloysius Kannada Medium Primary School) was celebrated on Tuesday December 2nd at Mangaluru.
He said, through the extra-curricular activities, the institution is successfully identifying the hidden talents of children. He gave a call to the students and said hand-in-hand with curriculum; they must also involve themselves in extra-curricular activities and make outstanding achievements.
Mayor Mahabala Maarla, the special guest of the event during his address appreciated the institution and said it is laudable that the institution concentrates on the overall development of its students. Most of the institutions at DK are directed by the Bishop and are progressing ahead towards success. Mayor thanked the administrative board too, of three institutions which have made great achievements.
He gave a call to the audience and said, “All the citizens should co-operate to make Mangaluru a clean and healthy city”. He urged the educational institutions to join hands in the development programs undertaken by the Mangaluru City Corporation for the betterment of the society.
Rev Fr Jerald D’Souza who chaired the event lauded the institutions in his address for their special achievement and said, this memorable “Institutions Day” celebrated under the aegis of three educational institutions ought to be scripted in gold.
Following the blessing, at Urwa Church Grounds, the students led a procession to the Stadium.
Minister for Youth Services, sports and Fisheries Abhaychandra Jain inaugurated the program. Mp Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA JR Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation, Mahabala Maarla, Rev Fr Jerald D’Souza, Secretary, Catholic Board of Education, Walter D’Mello, DDPI- Dakshina Kannada district, Lokesh C, BEO-Mangaluru North Range were the chief guests.
Rev Fr Valerian D’Souza, Msgr Fr Dennis M Prabhu, Rev Fr John D’Souza, Rev Fr Andrew Lewis, Daphne Unger, Sr Shalini, Adrian Dantis, Rev Fr Ivan M Rodrigues, Sylvia Lobo, National Award winner-B Srinivas Rao, Florine D’Souza, Hycintha Saldhana, Hilary D’Souza- vice president, Parish Pastoral Committee, Jeneview Mathias-secretary, Parish Pastoral Committee, Corporator Radhakrishna were the guests of honour who were present on the dais. The Head Masters and Head Mistress of three schools, along with teachers and pupil leaders were also present.
The event began with a prayer song by the students. Students welcomed the gathering by presenting an awesome welcome dance.
Rev Fr Victor D Mello welcomed the gathering. The report was read by Florene Pereira, Head Mistress of St Aloysius Kannada Medium Primary School. Rose J D’Souza and Shanthi Lobo compeered the program. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr Precilla D’Souza.
The students were felicitated by the guests for their outstanding performance during the year. Three retired H.M’s who strived for the betterment of the institution were felicitated by the Bishop by presenting mementos for their outstanding achievements.
Post the stage program, the spicy cultural events were presented by the students which made the event colorful. Special group dances and Bharat Dharshan were presented. The modern Tulu comedy show “Thelike Baie Nilike” immersed the audience in joy.
