Mangalore/Karkala,May 14: It has been reported that three men supposed to be working for underworld fugitive Ravi Poojary have been arrested by the police on May 13, for demanding hafta from the operator of stone crusher unit and threatening him at gun point.
The arrested have been identified as Nitin Kumar, aged 22 from the town,Guruprasanna,aged 22 from Salethur Bantwal and Somanath,aged 27 from Guddeangady.Siddique,aged 24 from Bantwal Balepuni,the other accused is at look out,the cop said.
Sources said all the four accused had reportedly visited the house of owner of stone crusher C M Joy, resident of Mala village of Karkala taluk on May 11,Friday and threatened him of dire consequences if he does not meet their demands of Rs 50 lakh as hafta, who works on behalf of Ravi Poojary.
The police personnel who got the information on Monday that accused were moving towards Karkala via Hosmar intercepted the vehicle they were traveling in at Pajegudde near Bajegoli and arrested them.
The police have recovered a gun and a car worth about Rs five lakhs from the accused.
