Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI) new regional unit opened at Mangalore.

Mangalore, October 16: A new regional unit of the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI), was opened in Mangalore on Wednesday, October 15th.

Commissioner of Customs D Purushotham, inaugurated the office. DGCEI functions under revenue department and Union Ministry of Finance.

The organization focuses on tracing dodging of central excise duty and service tax. The Mangalore regional unit will function under the control of zonal unit at Bangalore, which comprises other two regional units at Belgaum and Kochi. The newly established regional unit will detect anti-evasion activities in Uttara Kannada, DK, Udupi, Hassan, Chamarajanagar, Chikmagalur, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysore and Shimoga.The specified districts come under jurisdiction of Commissionerates of Central Excise and Service Tax of Mangalore/Mysore respectively.

The regional unit of Mangalore is situated at Nanthoor Circle. It is headed by deputy director, and has three senior intelligence officers and six intelligence officers.

During this occasion, Commissioner of IT, Mangalore- Lakshmi Hande Puri, and M Subramanyam, Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax were present.
