Mangalore, September 22: Hovercraft H-196, the third series of Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) of the Indian Coast

On Monday, September 22nd Guard built by UK arrived at Panambur Beach.

The 21 Mtrs long ACV with 31 tons of displacement can achieve maximum speed of 45 knots (90KMPH). It can carry out diverse tasks such as surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue and rendering assistance to small boats/craft’s etc at sea.

Hovercraft is commanded by Commandant Gulvinder Singh and is fully armed with heavy machine guns and state of art communication and navigation equipment including radar and world-wide satellite communication system.

Proposal of placing the hovercraft in New Mangalore was pending due to land acquisition at Tannirbhavi beach.

As per the proposed plan, two hovercrafts will be situated in Mangalore which will conduct dedicated operation, off the 320-km Karnataka coast, from New Mangalore.

Hovercraft can move on land as well as on the sea. Two propellers fitted on top of the craft create’s a cushion of air using which it operates.
