Six students assaulted by Bajrang Dal crew at Pumpwell

Mangalore, September18: A crew of Bajrang Dal has assaulted six students allegedly at Pumpwell here on Thursday September 18th.

Students of MIFSC college, Kalandar Shahid, Shameem, Mohammed Shahad, Ashique, Asfatulla and Shahbaz, all of them aged 18 were assaulted. They have been hospitalised.

It is gathered that the students were waiting near the bus stop at Pumpwell when a crew of around 20-25 persons who came in a Toofan Trax vehicle, assaulted them. They allegedly stabbed Kalandar with a knife and then fled the spot. Kalandar’s condition is said to be serious.

A student revealed said that about a week ago, a function was organized in their college and students were taking photos of each other and group photos. A few objected it, leading to clashes between two groups. The matter went to the principal, who succeeded in settling the matter through compromise. However, after the students emerged out of the college, one group allegedly threatened the other saying that Pumpwell area was ‘theirs’, to which the other group retorted with the threat of a police complaint.

It is said that, things went smoothly for the past one week, but on Wednesday September 17th evening, there was some tension and on Thursday, a group of around 20-25 persons came in the Toofan vehicle and allegedly assaulted the six students.

It is reported that the victims have identified three among the assaulters as Bajrang Dal members Punith Raj Kottary, Pradeep Pumpwell and Pramod Suvarna.

A case has been filed in Kankanady rural station.
