It is not always that a person gets declared a country’s citizen of the day. Especially when you are on a foreign land.

Tejinder Pal Singh is one of the most famous persons in the Darwin city; let us also tell you that he is not an actor, not a politician and not a millionaire either, then why he is so famous? Well, Tejinder Pal Singh is just a common India-born taxi driver, who is working in Australia but he is famous for his extraordinary deeds.

He has been named “Australian of the Day” for providing food to the poor and homeless. He drives taxi in night and in day he works as an air conditioner mechanic, so that he can save more money to feed the hungry.

Tejinder, on the last Sunday of every month, cooks 30 Kg of Indian food for the poor and homeless of northern Darwin, and in his van he carries a poster, on which it is written ‘Free Indian food for hungry and needy people, Provide Sikh family’. Tejinder has been doing this noble work for the past three years.

Tejinder told the local media, “I do something for homeless people, so they get more energy, so they’re happy. My religion says 10 per cent of income goes toward needy and poor people — no matter (whether) they belong to your religion or any religion.”

We just hope that Tejinder keeps on doing the good work and be able to feed more poor and homeless people.
