NEW DELHI: WhatsApp earlier in the day suffered a service disruption, with users facing frequent delays in sending and receiving messages. This comes just a day after the company handled 64 billion incoming and outgoing messages.

On iPhones, most WhatsApp users were unable to send messages as the service kept trying to connect to the internet for several minutes, before finally sending a message to the recipient.

Android and Windows Phone smartphones, too, were unable to send and receive messages instantly. While the messages were eventually getting sent, the recipients did not get them for several minutes.

Users of the popular messaging app have took to microblogging platform Twitter to express their frustration with the service disruption.
