Pro-Telangana stir intensifies; Seemandhra employees attacked

telanganaHyderabad, September 7; Five buses were damaged and a couple of students injured in a police lathicharge on Saturday even as the city remained tense over the face off between the APNGOs and TJAC over conducting the public meeting at L.B. Stadium.

Telangana Joint Action Committee comprising political parties, employees unions and others have also called for a bandh. Having permitted the meeting and disallowed the ‘peace rally’ of the TJAC, the police made elaborate security arrangements from last night.

Buses from the Seemandhra region carrying APNGOs were allowed into the city in a convoy and only those with ID cards were being permitted into the meeting venue. Five buses were damaged at Hayatnagar by unknown miscreants on the outskirts when the passengers got down for having breakfast.

Police burst tear gas shells and resorted to lathicharge at the Osmania University when the students clashed with them demanding to be allowed to go on a bike rally to the meeting.

Heated arguments led to pushing and shoving followed by stone pelting before the police personnel used their lathis and tear gas shells, The university was barricaded on both sides by the police.

The police also barged into the Nizam College Hostel and caned the students for having resorted to stone pelting on those arriving for the meeting. Students without ID cards were whisked away.

An OUJAC student leader Balraj Yadav was also thrashed after he tried to show black flags to the APNGOs inside the stadium. Police said that he and few others managed to get inside the stadium in the night.
