Kanpur, June 6: Love blossoms at any age. Here is an instance. Gangaram (78) and Phoolan Devi (58), after falling in love, tied the knot at a temple in Sachendi area of the district on Thursday.
The couple is happy. Over 500 guests attended the marriage. They have now become the oldest newly-wed couple of their village with a combined age of 136 years.
Gangaram and Phoolandevi of Matahapurwa village, are grandparents and have many grandchildren.
“After my mother’s death about fifteen years ago, my father was leading a lonely life.My neighbour Phoolan Devi also lost her husband a long time back. In our absence, she used to take care of my father Gangaram. Affection blossomed between the two as they used to help each other. We came to know about their `affair’ an year ago. We discussed the issue with the village `panchayat’ and after its approval, we decided to marry then,” Luvkush, younger son of Gangaram, said.
The couple thanked the `panchayat’ and villagers for their support. “This is certainly the happiest moment of my life. I am thankful to Gangaram for choosing me as his partner. I am thankful to villagers too,” Phoolan Devi said.
