New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today promised his full support in addressing the grievances of all sections of the Muslim society, an official statement said.

PM Modi offered the assurance in a meeting with leaders of the Muslim community, who discussed concerns including “increased radicalization and emerging threat of terrorism,” according to a statement by the prime minister’s office.

The leaders underscored the need for greater unity and collective efforts to meet the challenge.

The delegation included leaders from various religious bodies; they raised issues related to properties of Muslim shrines, mosques and madrasas. They also asked for the government’s support in providing better facilities to young Muslim men, especially in education.

The statement said PM Modi assured the leaders that he would look into their concerns and would try and address the grievances of all sections of the Muslim society. He also stressed on the need to empower young men of the community and promised to help improve their social conditions and meet their educational needs.

The Muslim delegation, the statement said, reiterated full support of the community to the Prime Minister in trying to ensure speedy economic growth, promoting communal harmony and peace and strengthening national security.

Earlier this year, as attacks on churches fueled concern that minority communities were being targeted, PM Modi had said in Parliament, “Nobody has the right to discriminate on the basis of religion. My government has only this ideology – India and the Constitution above all else.”
