Biggest conference of Muslim women demands sub quota in reservation

Coimbatore, 17 Nov 2014 : The National conference of National Women’s Front “Awakening” was held today at the Hazrat Begum Mahal Maidan at Coimbatore at 3 PM. This conference is one of the biggest conferences ever organized by Indian women. Women from various states like Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Delhi, West Bengal, AP, Goa and Rajasthan attended the conference. The Conference was presided over by NWF National President, Shahida Aslam.

The conference started with the welcome speech by Fareeda Hasan, National General Secretary, NWF. The national president of NWF Shahida Aslam inaugurated the conference. She stated that this conference is a major milestone for women activism in India. This is the first time such a massive national conference is organized by Indian women. She urged the women of India to realize their potential and strive towards establishing equality, justice and peace in the country. The key note speech was delivered by NWF National vice-president, Fatima Alima. She highlighted various issues faced by women in India and the need to immediately search a solution for these grave problems. She urged the women of India to stop being dependent on others for their rights and join the struggle to achieve equality.

The keynote address was followed by guest speeches by Mr. Mohammed Ali Jinnah, National Secretary, Popular Front of India, Mrs. Kavitha, Social Activist-Kerala, Prof. Nazni Begum, Vice President, SDPI, A.S Ismail, State President, Popular Front Tamilnadu and Dahlan Baqavi State President SDPI. The guests congratulated NWF for successfully organizing this historic conference and ensured their support to NWF in all its future campaigns. There were also video messages by prominent activists like Kavitha Krishnan, Secretary, All India Progressive Women’s Association, Delhi, Prof. Nandini Sundar, Delhi School of Economic, New Delhi and Prof Safia Amir, Hamdard University, Delhi.

State presidents of NWF Kerala, Karnataka and Tamilnadu also spoke on the occasion and presented the success of NWF and Awakening conference in their respective states. The conference resolution was announced by NWF National Committee member Asiya Maryam and the General Secretaries of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamilnadu. The following resolutions were passed in the conference:

Stop saffronization of Education and History
Justice and rehabilitation  to riots victims
Sub quota for Muslims, dalits, tribals and backward classes in women reservation.
Enact law to punish acid attack culprits and protect victims
Stop forceful sterilization and punish the government authorities involved.
Repeal draconian laws
Love Jihad is a false propaganda and must be stopped immediately.
Close down Koodankulam nuclear power plant and withdraw cases against activists.

The conference concluded with the vote of thanks by Mrs. M. Shifa, Conference General Convener. The gathering dispersed with a positive hope for future and with the determination to be steadfast in future struggle for the empowerment of Indian women.
