The Filipina woman was allegedly sexually harassed at night in the Bur Dubai area.

A woman had to be treated at hospital after a man allegedly sexually harassed her at night in the Bur Dubai area, a court heard.

The 29-year-old Filipina, who worked as a restaurant waitress, told the police and the prosecution that it was about 4am on September 28 last year when she came back from work. As she was entering her villa in Bur Dubai, she was suddenly attacked by the man.

“I was taken by surprise when this man, who was hiding in the villa yard, suddenly lunged at me and hugged and kissed my lips. He bit my upper lip violently which led it to bleed,” she recounted.

The man fled the scene as she started to scream for help.

“I went to a hospital for treatment and there I was told that I needed to report the incident at the police station,” the woman said during the investigation. “I then filed a police complaint.”

On October 7, last year, the complainant was summoned by the Bur Dubai Police Station.

“I was shown the defendant among other suspects by the police and was able to identify him”.

A police officer said that the defendant was already in police custody as he was arrested in another case. “He was referred to us for interrogation after we found that he met the descriptions given to us by the Filipina complainant,” the officer added.

The defendant, a 25-year-old unemployed Bangladeshi, faced charges of sexual assault and trespassing into others’ property in the Court of First Instance.

The accused willingly admitted during investigation that he followed the complainant that night and confessed that he took advantage of the fact that no one was around. The forensic report showed that the complainant had a lip injury as stated by to the police.
