Blaze breaks out at residential tower under construction at Queue Point

Dubai: A fire broke out at a residential tower under construction at Queue Point in Dubai early on Wednesday afternoon.

A series of small explosions rocked the area around the unfinished tower, next to Mazaya 1 tower near Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, at around 12.45pm. The noise drew residents into the street.

The cause of the explosions was not immediately known. A spokesperson from Dubai Civil Defence said there were no injuries.

Queue Point security staff were first on the scene at around 12.40pm when flames on the ground floor could be seen from the centre of the structure.

The fire quickly spread and black smoke billowed as high as 30 metres drifting toward Al Ain Road.

the Dubai Civil Defence spokesperson said the operations room received the call about the fire at 12.45pm, and the fire was under control at 1.27pm. He said that the fire started in building materials on the ground floor. The building appeared to be empty of construction workers at the time of the fire.

The blaze caused traffic to back up on the road that serves as the main exit from the new residential community. Teams from Al Rashidiya, Al Quoz, Al Lusailly and Port Saeed fire stations put out the fire. The cooling process is ongoing.
