The new record category was created by students of 119 nationalities from GEMS schools, representing 200 nationalities in the UAE.
The UAE has once again entered the record books, this time for most nationalities singing a national anthem at a time. Bringing together students from more than 119 nationalities to sing the UAE national anthem, students from GEMS schools set the new record on Monday.
“Our world record-breaking rendition of the UAE national anthem is a celebration of unity through diversity – represented by 119 of the 200 nationalities who call the UAE home, and who are eager to give thanks and acknowledge the opportunities they have been given by our nation,” said Amal Al Bayari, Director of Government Relations at GEMS Education.
Gathered together in the sports field of GEMS Wellington Academy, Dubai Silicon Oasis, more than 100,000 students across different schools watched the new record via live-stream, while over 4,000 students, parents and staff attended the celebration.
Officials from the Guinness World Records team were at hand to make sure passports of the student singers were checked to verify their nationalities.
Speaking with Khaleej Times, Dino Varkey, Group Executive Director of GEMS Education, said: “For us, UAE is home. It has allowed us to build a network of schools which has a global impact and this is our way of saying thank you. We wanted to do something special and spread a message of hope and positivity.”
Samer Khallouf, an adjudicator from Guinness World Records, said: “We had set a minimum requirement of 50 different nationalities as no one had set such a record before. The new record is now set at 119 different nationalities singing a anthem in unison.”
Over the last few days, UAE has seen a record-spree with several new records being created. Some of the new records include most car brands in a parade, longest relay of selfie photographs, most people carrying a banner, longest graffiti scroll.
Other record events planned as part of the national day celebration include the formation of the largest fingerprint mosaic, largest flag with business cards.
